Abstract
Radiological images are widely used in modern medicine for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Radiologists play a crucial role in accurately interpreting these images and making correct diagnoses based on them. However, most hospitals currently face a significant shortage of radiologists. In particular, smaller hospitals or those located in remote areas may not have any radiologists at all. In such situations, making accurate diagnoses for patients becomes extremely difficult.
Furthermore, since radiologists are not available on-site 24 hours a day, emergency patients at night may face serious difficulties due to the absence of radiologists. To address these problems, Xray21 Co., Ltd. and the Data and Knowledge Engineering Laboratory at Kangwon National University have been conducting collaborative research since 2000.
With the rapid advancement of computer and network technologies, it has become possible to connect many radiologists and hospitals through the Internet. By utilizing this internet-based environment, the joint research team developed an internet-based telemedicine diagnostic system for remote interpretation of radiological images.
This paper discusses various technical experiences and insights obtained during the development of this system.
